LOVE IS SOUND AND SOUND IS LOVE,
MIRA OMERZEL - MIRIT, PhD
A MUSIC DOCUMENTARY

TV Slovenia          16th of December 2015

2015 marks: 45 years of the ethno-musicological research of Dr Mira Omerzel - Mirit, 20 years of her spiritual teaching and the Veduna School, 37 years of the Trutamora Slovenica Ensemble, an ensemble for the revival of the Slovene musical heritage, 15 years of the trance-play of the Vedun Ensemble’s musicians and 15 years of Mirit’s life without food.

As a student of ethnology and musicology, Mira Omerzel was already carrying out ethno-musicological field research across Slovenia and collecting folk musical instruments. And it was at that time that she began cooperating with the department for serious music and ballet at TV Slovenia, which began to film a series about Slovene folk musicians and instruments. In this way, precious recordings were created, many made at very short notice.
At the age of 22, Mira Omerzel formed the Trutamora Slovenica Ensemble, which, as an ambassador of the Slovene musical heritage, spread the voice of the Slovenes throughout the world. In 1999, she established the Vedun Ensemble, an ensemble for old and meditative music and the transcendental sound of the peoples of the world. In 2008, the two ensembles merged their musical activities under the name Vedun. The documentary presents the important mission pursued by Mira Omerzel - Mirit and her closest colleagues – not only research and restoration, but also the raising of people’s awareness through sound.
